Privacy and cookies

Updated 6 November 2026

Digital Art Lab (DAL) is developed by Colin Macaulay as part of his doctoral research at Dublin City University. This notice explains the website’s analytics and related services. Contact colin.macaulay@dcu.ie with questions.

Your analytics choice

Google Analytics is optional. Its tag is blocked until you choose “Accept analytics”. Selecting “Reject analytics” lets you continue using the educational resources without DAL analytics. Use the “Cookie settings” button on any page to change your choice. If you withdraw consent, analytics is disabled, its accessible first-party cookies are removed and the page reloads.

Your choice is stored in your browser for up to 180 days. Analytics cookies are configured with a maximum lifetime of 180 days. You may also clear cookies and website data through your browser settings. Your choice applies to this browser and domain; it does not automatically transfer between devices or between the www and non-www hostnames.

What analytics measures

For consenting visitors, Google Analytics helps understand which pages and resources are useful. It measures page views, scrolling, outbound link clicks, file-download clicks and related engagement and technical information such as device/browser type and approximate location. A download click does not prove that a resource was used in a classroom.

DAL does not intentionally send names, email addresses, recordings or artwork to Analytics. Automatic form-interaction measurement is disabled. Page addresses and referrers sent by DAL’s initial configuration omit query strings and fragments. Advertising storage, advertising personalisation and Google signals are disabled in DAL’s tag configuration.

Google processes analytics data under its applicable terms. See how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services and Google’s privacy policy for processing, retention and international-transfer information.

Hosting and external services

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Hosting providers process technical connection information to deliver the site. Some pages load Google Fonts or embed video from Google Drive; those services receive technical connection information when loaded. The analytics choice controls DAL’s Google Analytics tag; it does not block these separate external resources. Following a link to another website is subject to that website’s own privacy information.

Email and research participation

Contact and feedback links open your email application. If you send an email, your address and message are used to respond to your enquiry or feedback. Please avoid sending information identifying children or confidential school information.

Website analytics is separate from participation in the PhD study. Agreeing to analytics does not enrol you in research. Any formal study participation requires its own information and consent process.

Your questions and rights

You can withdraw analytics consent using Cookie settings. Contact Colin for privacy enquiries, including requests relating to personal information you have provided directly. You can also contact Ireland’s Data Protection Commission.
